Engagement Rate Calculator
Is this creator's audience actually paying attention? Enter a few numbers from their recent posts to get their engagement rate and how it compares on YouTube, TikTok or Instagram.
How engagement rate is calculated
On YouTube and TikTok, engagement is usually measured per view: likes, comments (and shares on TikTok) divided by views. On Instagram, where views aren't always public, it's measured per follower: likes plus comments divided by followers.
Use averages over the creator's last 10 posts, not their best one. The benchmarks are common rules of thumb and vary by niche and audience size.
What a good rate means for you
- High engagement means viewers trust the creator, so a recommendation is more likely to turn into wishlists, downloads or sales.
- Smaller creators usually have higher engagement than big ones. That's a reason to start with them.
- Very high engagement with very low views can mean a tiny, loyal audience: great for niche products, less for reach.
- Sudden spikes or comments that all look alike can be a sign of bought engagement.
Frequently asked questions
What is a good engagement rate?
As a rough guide: on YouTube 4–7% per view is good, on TikTok 6–10% per view, and on Instagram 3–6% per follower. Smaller accounts are usually higher, and it varies by niche.
Should I measure by views or followers?
By views when you can (YouTube, TikTok): it shows how people react to what they actually watched. By followers on Instagram, where views aren't always public.
Why is engagement more important than followers?
Followers pile up over years and include people who no longer watch. Engagement shows how many people care right now, which is what turns a sponsored post into results.
